The Two Queens Party 26th November 2009
The eve of a public holiday meant the night would be filled to the brim. I arrived to snakey queues greeting me around the bend, a bad sign for me.
I was expected in at 10pm and it was 10:30... that bottle of wine at Toca Me was a bad move.
Art is subjective, so are opinions.

![]() The night begun with two artists jam-slamming on a canvas sheet. They were half done when I arrived.
The left side was conquered by Sheryo, whose piece was a close-up on the details of a girl's face/head. The straight hair was a background, splashed with little trinkets in white, like hearts and (if my memory doesn't fail me) skulls.
Starring at the picture, the first thing that hit me was - doll-like figurine with eyes too big, and thick stumpy eyelashes. It was a pretty picture, with perfections which defy life. The hair was my best bet.
Manda (the right side), had a picture of a girl. The hair was my favourite part of the painting - thick black strokes, ending with faint hair-like detail. Good texture.
Lulu's facial expression, down to the mole below her eye, her jaw-line, the golden strokes which invaded her portrait was emphasized by the black color tone, and a collared shirt.
Lulu's fashion sense, and character was (as I quote from a friend) "very cool".
![]() The separations between their styles of drawing were distinct, and a short chat with them revealed a couple of fun facts:
LuLu's intrigue in her eyes, the tilt of her head, and her spunky hair got my eye. To add to my excitement, Manda's revelation about LuLu being a real person. Oh LuLu, so where are you? I've always been one to meet muses.
More of Sheryo can be seen at illustromaniac.blogspot.com. I LOVE LOVE LOVE her cute cartoon-sy work. Especially Scrambling Sam, and the Flea Titans - 3 design. Whoot! Made me wish I could either eat scrambling sam, or have him on my wall to wake up to. Happiness.
![]() Stuck in the midst of a crowd and being vertically challenged is my bane. The music DJs were up next. Robin, from 11pm-12mn, and Joelle from 12mn-1am.
Robin's style filters the R&B - electro, her funky exterior brought up high hopes. The opening song left a stinging presence as her transition hit an awkward note. It picked up, after a couple of songs, and the music gravitated closer towards an R&B remix which brought the crowd on the dance floor. The crowd liked it. It was fine for me.
As the hour waned on, her transitions got smoother. The song choices for her mixing shows promise, and I liked the strong bass beats thumping in my ears. It was a drastic improvement from the previous time I heard her at PLAY. As they say, Practice makes perfect, yo!
![]() Joelle's music taste held a jarring difference to Robin's. The changing of DJs couldn't be more obvious. Joelle had me placed in an underground club in Britain. It was a weird experience of music for me which I could not understand - it was not R&B, nor house, nor trance, nor electronica/funk.
To me, it was an old school rock remixes of sorts, peppered with indie songs. Boom. Boom. Boom. The screen flashed me, telling me it was indie-electronica. With the mystery unfolded, I allowed myself to float with the sea of people towards the bar for further entertainment.
Amidst the whisky goggles, the company of my friends and my awkward jumping steps (I can't dance to save my life), I stopped sulking from being pushed around, allowing Joelle's music motion to sink in. I was rocking out when the clock struck two when Funky Munky and Wilson regained their power at the console. I have always been a supporter of dictators.
PLAY closed at 4 am that night (in the organizer's words 4 am, get it? 4 A.M.!), leaving my aching feet utterly disappointed.
