Profile: Raised As A Pack Of Wolves

With haunted eyes and a wild - almost feral - attitude, androgynous girls stalk menacingly in the photography series, Raised As A Pack Of Wolves. Captured by local artist Genevieve Chua, the online series first premiered at the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival in 2009.

Inspired by a story about a group of wolf spirits, Genevieve spent two years documenting a group of teenage girls, whom she met through friends, casted off the street, or through blogs.

The series, which can be viewed here, depicts the girls trekking stealthily through the shadowy darkness in surreal settings. A forest, a lake, the yellow glare of a street lamp: the girl-wolves roam elusive and untamed.

Especially one that portrays queer girls with such a deeply ruminative, sensitive palette. We speak to the artist, who graduated from Lasalle College of the Arts, on her experiences and inspiration behind the work.
