The SpaceSheep blasts off with Cannon

The SpaceSheep catches up with Neroli Cannon via an email interview.

Music is my hot hot sex. It is difficult to find a DJ who plays music that sets your dancing spark on fire, but it is all the more difficult to find a DJ who loves their music, AND their audience.

There is a difference in DJs who are not as in tune with their audience as they are with their music, and playing a live set is a test of their ability to balance both. Neroli balances fun, music, and her audience on the centre of her palm. Working magic through her music, she always hits that sweet spot which leaves the floor grooving and wanting more.

Two years ago, I had a chance to talk to Neroli one day before her debut at Two Queens. Her easy-going nature, coupled with her dedication and passion for music left me with a conversation I would never forget.... Due to issues with traveling (it was her virgin trip to SG), Customs had forced her to leave a couple of discs behind, and she was worried about her play list. The next day, Neroli Cannon lived up to her name as Queensland's Number 1 female DJ, ruling the decks and the dance floor with her wicked fingertips.

QN: You've been to Singapore a couple of times over the past year(s). What do you love about our little island?

Neroli: I have good friends in Singapore so I always love catching up with them. Singapore has some great places to eat, drink & have a good dance... I always love getting friends together to come along to Two Queens with me. It's always fun :)

QN: It's been a while since we've heard from you! What has been keeping you busy?

Neroli: I've been working hard in the studio - on some re-mixes and on my own music. I've just spent 3 months back home in Australia DJ-ing around the country for the Summer festival season, including some gigs in Sydney for the Mardi Gras Festival.
I've also been preparing to settle in London for the next year, stopping by Singapore on the way of course!

QN: What's the best and worst thing about DJ-ing?

Neroli: The best thing about DJ-ing is getting people up dancing & having a fun time, leaving their troubles at the door. I love seeing happy faces. The worst?..... probably all the late nights & trying to catch up on sleep during the day.

QN: We know how Neroli is at the DJ console... How is Neroli like on the dance floor?

Neroli: I love to dance! Before I became a DJ I used to go to clubs & dance all night (if the DJ was good). So when I DJ, I think of what would make me get up dancing as well. I've been known to get out of the booth on the odd occasion (if the song allows) & bust a few moves ;)

QN:  Complete this: Girls are....

Neroli: aahhhhh... Girls are so many things! Complicated, beautiful, powerful, tempting, loveable, &.....dangerous ;). Girls are my weakness, just like candy :)

This rounds up the (unwillingly) short and sweet interview with my favourite DJ.

About Space Sheep
She wanted to save the world with a huge ballpoint pen, but discovered the television and the internet. Since then, life has been put on hold as she discovered her natural flair for being a potato. To satisfy her alter ego, she hides behind a colored screen working her naked fingers across square blocks to entertain you. She likes cheese, huge furry animals and is in the process of adopting a llama so they can watch television together (girlfriends are SO past tense).
